The Inpatient Coding Audit with Education is designed to evaluate the accuracy and appropriateness of the diagnoses and procedural coding based upon the physician's documentation to ensure compliance with coding guidelines and CMS rules while identifying potential reimbursement or process improvement opportunities. This review will include an analysis of UB-92s and Remittance Advices for the records reviewed. The review will verify the Discharge Disposition on the UB-92s. Results per case are identified and a recalculation is determined for each case to identify an overpayment or underpayment. Coding education with the staff follows the audit to identify coding improvement opportunities and to share the latest, most up-to-date information on coding and documentation protocols.
